This Week's Lemonade- The Neighbors

Let's be honest. No matter how nice we are, no matter how many cups of sugar we lend, there is always one neighbor that manages to make our lives a little more difficult.

I live in a quadplex and, for me, that neighbor is the one who lives in the unit next to mine. We used to get along great - until I did something these neighbors didn't like. I called the cops. On the surface, that might seem a little harsh. Unfortunately, the reason I called was because one of the sons had a gun and he was threatening to shoot one of the other neighbors. Maybe it's me, but I kind of think that's something the cops should get involved with.

Since then, it's been a string of annoyances. Some I could link to the neighbors, others I just suspected. After months of punctured tires, scratches on my car, stolen laundry detergent (oh, please!) and a giant firework placed in front of my door; it looks like we may finally have closure.

Last weekend, we had drama. The kind of drama you'd rather avoid. Several fire trucks and a burning building - all thanks to a 15-year-old smoking cigarettes. I spent a few anxious hours outside with my fiancee, service dog, cats and many neighbors. Thanks be to Go and many hardworking firefighters, most of the damage was contained to the unit where the fire started.

We do, however, have a wonderful new skylight!
Isn't that lovely?!
I'm very grateful that the damage to our unit was so minimal and I (half-jokingly) told the landloard it would be a great time to add access to the attic for storage. We'll have to wait and see if she agrees. ;)
There is an upside to the story for the neighborhood. The neighbors in question have been given notice to leave. It really made me sad when I realized how many people had problems with this family.
Moral of the story: When you know your kids are doing wrong (and they did), if you choose to ignore it and not confront the problem, it's going to come back and bite you. Karma, baby, karma...
